Arrived!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My engine shipped last friday and arrived at Apple&#8217;s loading dock this afternoon. \u00a0The crate is bigger than I expected at about 3&#8217;x4&#8242; and about 2.5&#8242; tall. \u00a0According to the shipping documents, it weighs 400lbs.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1493.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1493.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>There was a little damage to the top of the crate near one end. \u00a0Probably something that was placed on top of this crate that broke through. \u00a0Hopefully there&#8217;s no damage to the components.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1494.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1494.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I rented a U-Haul pickup and the receiving guys loaded it into the back with their forklift.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1495.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1495.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the crate strapped in and ready for the ride to my house. \u00a0My friend Josh from work helped me run this home and unload it with an engine hoist.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1496.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1496.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>After work, I removed the crate (though the engine is still on the forklift pallet). \u00a0The engine looks fantastic. \u00a0It&#8217;s painted metallic blue (one of their stock colors) with chrome push rod tubes and valve covers. \u00a0This is an Aero Sport Power IO-375 engine with a Superior cold air induction sump. \u00a0It dyno&#8217;d at 196-198 hp on the test stand.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1503.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1503.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Aero Sport builds these from ECI components.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1498.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1498.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the Superior cold air sump. \u00a0You can sort of see that the intake tubes don&#8217;t run through the oil pan which keeps the intake air cooler than traditional sumps. \u00a0The intake tubes are stainless steel (just like the exhaust pipes will be).<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1499.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1499.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This is the Silver Hawk EX fuel injection servo. \u00a0Intake air will come through the opening covered by the plate on the right.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1500.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1500.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I also ordered a B&amp;C Products 40 amp alternator that was preinstalled.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1501.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1501.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Traditional aircraft engine run dual magnetos for the ignition system. \u00a0I&#8217;m using an electronic ignition for one set of spark plugs, but I&#8217;m using a traditional mag for the other set. \u00a0This provides two independent ignition systems, one of which is not dependent on the electrical system.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1504.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1504.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This is the mechanical fuel pump. \u00a0The fuel first passes through an electric fuel pump in the cabin. \u00a0This provides fuel delivery redundancy in case the mechanical pump fails.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1505.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1505.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This is where the propeller governor will mount. \u00a0Fortunately, the studs are already installed, since I&#8217;ve heard these can be a pain to put in.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1507.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1507.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This is where the other magneto would mount if I were using dual magnetos. \u00a0Since I&#8217;m using an electronic ignition with a direct crank sensor, this is unused. \u00a0I may install a B&amp;C Products SD-8 standby alternator here at some point.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1508.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1508.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The oil filter mounts on the back of the engine.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1509.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1509.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here is the fuel distribution spider mounted to the top of the engine. \u00a0There are stainless steel lines from here to each of the cylinders.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1510.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1510.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>These are the ignition coils for the electronic ignition. \u00a0These will fire the top spark plugs while the magneto will fire the bottom plugs.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1511.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1511.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The electronic ignition detects the crank position using this crank sensor mounted inside the flywheel. \u00a0There are tiny magnets installed into the flywheel that pass by sensors on this circuit board.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1512.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1512.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Aero Sport engines come with a Sky Tec Light Weight Inline starter. \u00a0Early versions of Sky Tec starters suffered from quality problems, but the company created new clean sheet designs that are very high quality. \u00a0I haven&#8217;t heard of anyone having issues with any of the newer model Sky Tec starters.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1513.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1513.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The B&amp;C alternator requires an external voltage regulator. \u00a0This has a built-in crowbar over voltage protection feature to nearly instantly take the alternator off-line if it starts to go over voltage.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1514.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1514.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The crate also included new aviation spark plugs for the bottom set.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1515.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1515.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>There are also some fittings that presumably need to be installed somewhere.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1516.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1516.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here are the spark plug wires for the magneto.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1517.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1517.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This is the propeller governor gasket with a stainless steel screen to keep debris out of the governor.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1518.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1518.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Aero Sport kindly included a small bottle of touch up paint for the inevitable scratches that I&#8217;ll get on the engine before it&#8217;s ready for flight.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1519.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1519.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The crate also included a couple of firesleeved oil hoses. \u00a0I&#8217;ll need to figure out what these are for.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1520.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1520.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Aero Sport also included a Lycoming operator&#8217;s manual.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1521.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1521.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>They also sent a couple of t-shirts which was super nice of them.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1522.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1522.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>There is also a packet of info from Aero Sport that includes an engine log.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1523.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1523.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the brain box for the Lightspeed ignition. \u00a0This will mount behind the firewall to keep it away from the heat and from engine cleaners and water.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1524.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1524.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The box from Lightspeed also includes a set of automotive plugs, adaptors, spark plug wires, etc. for hooking up the electronic ignition.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100506\/CIMG1525.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\"
