{"id":894,"date":"2010-09-15T17:11:19","date_gmt":"2010-09-15T17:11:19","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-06T05:20:58","modified_gmt":"2017-12-06T05:20:58","slug":"fabricated-and-attached-aft-st","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2010\/09\/15\/fabricated-and-attached-aft-st\/","title":{"rendered":"Fabricated and Attached Aft Strut Mounts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Using some 1\/8&#8243; thick aluminum sheet, I fabricated the components for the aft strut mounts. \u00a0The strut ball ends mount through the large holes on the top. \u00a0The smaller pieces are spacers to keep the struts from hitting the canopy frame.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100915\/IMG_8915.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_8915.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The aft mounts need to be mounted 6.125&#8243; aft of the canopy rail split line. \u00a0I measured and laid out a mark.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100915\/IMG_8918.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_8918.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I positioned the mount and used a small vise-grip clamp to clamp it to the aft canopy rail, then drilled it to the rail. \u00a0I then tried to bolt the mounts to the canopy rails while they were in place, but this proved to be too much of a pain given the limited access behind the rail. \u00a0I ended up pulling the canopy rails off to bolt these in place.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100915\/IMG_8919.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_8919.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I also screwed the forward ball ends into the forward mounts.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100915\/IMG_8917.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_8917.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Finally, I popped the struts in place. \u00a0This took a huge amount of force, but this is expected given that these need to lift a fairly heavy canopy with a pretty short lever arm. \u00a0The force of this strut did slightly alter the canopy position which created a tiny gap between the forward canopy skin and the forward canopy rail. \u00a0The gap is too small to do anything about though, so I&#8217;m going to leave it.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100915\/IMG_8920.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_8920.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Using some 1\/8&#8243; thick aluminum sheet, I fabricated the components for the aft strut mounts. \u00a0The strut ball ends mount through the large holes on the top. \u00a0The smaller pieces are spacers to keep the struts from hitting the canopy frame.
