{"id":880,"date":"2010-10-28T17:07:57","date_gmt":"2010-10-28T17:07:57","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-07T07:10:16","modified_gmt":"2017-12-07T07:10:16","slug":"drilled-canopy-sides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2010\/10\/28\/drilled-canopy-sides\/","title":{"rendered":"Drilled Canopy Sides"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I repositioned the canopy and clamped it down. \u00a0I then used a 1\/8&#8243; plexiglass drill bit to drill through the canopy, aiming for the 3\/32&#8243; holes already in the frame.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20101028\/IMG_8953.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_8953.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, the front of the canopy pulled up about 3\/32&#8243; of an inch on the left and 2\/32&#8243; on the right. \u00a0This is a pretty common problem, and the fix is fairly easy. \u00a0The canopy can be pushed down flush with very little force, so I&#8217;ll fabricate a couple of aluminum clips that can be riveted to the canopy frame to keep it tight while I lay up the fiberglass along the front joint.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20101028\/IMG_8954.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_8954.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Now that the canopy position is locked in, I laid up some masking tape to define the area to be painted. \u00a0I&#8217;m going to paint the part of the skin that is under the canopy a flat black to avoid glare.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20101028\/IMG_8955.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_8955.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I trimmed along the line I defined a couple of days ago, this allows the canopy to transition more gently from the skin to the side channels.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20101028\/IMG_8956.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_8956.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a shot from a different angle showing the gradual transition. \u00a0This is a much better solution than extending the notch forward.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20101028\/IMG_8957.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_8957.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I repositioned the canopy and clamped it down. \u00a0I then used a 1\/8&#8243; plexiglass drill bit to drill through the canopy, aiming for the 3\/32&#8243; holes already in the frame.
