{"id":856,"date":"2011-02-25T17:07:56","date_gmt":"2011-02-25T17:07:56","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-08T02:39:57","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T02:39:57","slug":"worked-on-exhaust-pipes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2011\/02\/25\/worked-on-exhaust-pipes\/","title":{"rendered":"Worked on Exhaust Pipes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After exchanging a couple of emails with Joe Blank at Van&#8217;s, they determined that my lower cowl doesn&#8217;t have a long enough side flange. \u00a0They&#8217;re going to send me a new lower cowl, so I&#8217;m going to work on a few other things until then.<\/p>\n<p>Since I marked the cut points on the exhaust pipes last night, I pulled the lower half of each pipe and cut the three longest pipes to match the shortest. \u00a0I then cleaned up the ends so that there were no burrs and reinstalled the pipes.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110225\/IMG_9085.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9085.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I then fabricated the exhaust hangers. \u00a0These are each comprised of two pieces of stainless steel tubing connected by a piece of rubber tubing. \u00a0I flared the ends of the stainless tubes so that they couldn&#8217;t slip out of the rubber tube.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110225\/IMG_9086.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9086.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Now that the exhaust is installed for good, I installed the heat muff around the #1 and #3 pipes. \u00a0This was a bitch to get on since the fit is <b>really<\/b>\u00a0tight. \u00a0I moved it almost as far forward as possible so that I can get maximum heat transfer as well as provide the most room for the aft SCAT tube. \u00a0I could have moved it forward another 1\/4&#8243; or so, but I wanted to be able to inspect the weld on the #3 pipe during annuals.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110225\/IMG_9087.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9087.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Despite moving the heat muff forward, the right exhaust hanger is still going to interfere with the aft SCAT tube. \u00a0I&#8217;m going to have to shorten the exhaust hangers which will have the effect of moving the upper attach points farther out. \u00a0Hopefully that will give me enough clearance that the SCAT tube won&#8217;t rub on the exhaust hanger.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110225\/IMG_9090.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9090.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After exchanging a couple of emails with Joe Blank at Van&#8217;s, they determined that my lower cowl doesn&#8217;t have a long enough side flange. \u00a0They&#8217;re going to send me a new lower cowl, so I&#8217;m going to work on a few other things until then.
