{"id":841,"date":"2011-03-15T17:07:56","date_gmt":"2011-03-15T17:07:56","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-08T04:25:27","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T04:25:27","slug":"installed-new-brake-lines-and","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2011\/03\/15\/installed-new-brake-lines-and\/","title":{"rendered":"Installed New Brake Lines and Bled Brakes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The last time I spoke with Brett at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bonacoinc.com\/\">Bonaco<\/a>, he indicated that they now have black anodized fittings, so I ordered replacement\u00a0AN822-3D fittings and new hoses from the reservoir to the master cylinder with black fittings on each end. \u00a0This looks so much nicer now that everything associated with the brakes and rudder pedals is black anodized aluminum.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110315\/IMG_9159.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9159.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I torqued down all of the fittings and decided to fill the brake system tonight. \u00a0I&#8217;m using Royco 782 fluid. \u00a0I was able to find quart sizes of this at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skygeek.com\">SkyGeek.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110315\/IMG_9161.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9161.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Royco 782 is a MIL-PRF-83282 fluid which is the replacement for MIL-H-5606 and has a much higher flash point. \u00a0There have been brake fires with MIL-H-5606, so I didn&#8217;t want to use that.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110315\/IMG_9162.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9162.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The general consensus seems to be to use a pressure system to fill the brake system from the bottom, but people sometimes still have issues with bubbles in the system. \u00a0Getting the bubbles out of the system has nothing to do with the direction you fill the system, it&#8217;s all about getting a high flow rate through the system. \u00a0If the flow rate is too slow, bubbles will get stuck in high spots in the system since they tend to migrate fairly slowly through the narrow lines. \u00a0With a high enough flow rate, the bubbles can&#8217;t help but be carried along with the fluid.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, what I did was create a closed system to pump the brake fluid through. \u00a0I hooked up a fitting and hose to the brake fluid reservoir and put the other end in the can of brake fluid. \u00a0I then hooked up another hose to the fitting on the bottom of the wheel caliper and also put that hose in the can of brake fluid. \u00a0Now, as fluid is pumped out of the can and through the system, it&#8217;s returned back to the can. \u00a0All I had to do after that was operate the brake pedals fully and moderately quickly until nothing but clean fluid was being pumped back into the can. \u00a0This only took about 30 seconds on each side. \u00a0The brakes are absolutely rock solid and no leaks!<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110315\/IMG_9160.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9160.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The last time I spoke with Brett at\u00a0Bonaco, he indicated that they now have black anodized fittings, so I ordered replacement\u00a0AN822-3D fittings and new hoses from the reservoir to the master cylinder with black fittings on each end. \u00a0This looks so much nicer now that everything associated with the brakes and rudder pedals is black &hellip;
