{"id":837,"date":"2011-03-20T17:07:56","date_gmt":"2011-03-20T17:07:56","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-08T04:32:32","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T04:32:32","slug":"replaced-skyview-usb-cable-and","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2011\/03\/20\/replaced-skyview-usb-cable-and\/","title":{"rendered":"Replaced SkyView USB Cable and Worked on Control Stick Grips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The SkyView DB37 connector comes with a long USB cable with a type A female end on it. \u00a0The other end connects to pins 16-19 on the DB37 connector. \u00a0This cable is kind of useless as the female end can&#8217;t be mounted to anything.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110319\/IMG_9171.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9171.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I extracted these pins from the DB37 connector so I can replace it with a more appropriate connector.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110319\/IMG_9172.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9172.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I picked up this 18&#8243; USB 2.0 A M\/F panel mount cable. \u00a0I could have just connected this to the preinstalled SkyView USB cable, but it won&#8217;t have been extremely long and would have just ended up coiled up behind the panel. \u00a0I clipped off the male end and crimped on some d-sub sockets.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110319\/IMG_9173.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9173.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I then reassembled the connector. \u00a0I really wish Dynon had just installed this sort of cable in the first place.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110319\/IMG_9174.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9174.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here you can see that the cable is long enough to reach anywhere near the SkyView screen. \u00a0To confirm everything was working correctly, I upgraded the SkyView to 2.6 using the USB thumb drive plugged into this cable. \u00a0I&#8217;ll install an identical cable on the other SkyView screen once I order it.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110319\/IMG_9175.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9175.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>While I had my electrical tools out, I went ahead and soldered some lead wires to the controls that will be installed in the control stick grips.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110319\/IMG_9176.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9176.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Before I can install the controls into the stick for good, I wanted to put a couple of coats of tung oil on the grips.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110319\/IMG_9177.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9177.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The SkyView DB37 connector comes with a long USB cable with a type A female end on it. \u00a0The other end connects to pins 16-19 on the DB37 connector. \u00a0This cable is kind of useless as the female end can&#8217;t be mounted to anything.
