{"id":799,"date":"2011-05-08T17:07:55","date_gmt":"2011-05-08T17:07:55","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-08T06:30:54","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T06:30:54","slug":"trimmed-aft-end-of-cowl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2011\/05\/08\/trimmed-aft-end-of-cowl\/","title":{"rendered":"Trimmed Aft End of Cowl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I trimmed the sides of the lower cowl and then sanded them so that they tuck in against the hinge (which I also drilled but didn&#8217;t get a picture of). \u00a0I drilled one hole through the top of each side into the hinge to lock the position of the lower cowl in place.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110508\/IMG_9487.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9487.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I then marked and trimmed the aft end of the top cowl. \u00a0This will need a little sanding, but it is enough to let it drop down against the hinge.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110508\/IMG_9488.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9488.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, there is still a gap along the sides. \u00a0The plans (and other builder&#8217;s websites) say these should overlap along the sides so that you can trim them both to get a perfectly straight joint.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110508\/IMG_9481.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9481.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The left side is even worse with a roughly 1\/8&#8243; gap down the entire side.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110508\/IMG_9482.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9482.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The fit at the front still looks great. \u00a0Here&#8217;s the lineup at the top.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110508\/IMG_9484.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9484.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>And the lower point on the cowl lines up nicely with the spinner. \u00a0Clearly the front of the cowl is in the right spot and the back is pulled in as tight as it can go. \u00a0Time to chat with Van&#8217;s again about this.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20110508\/IMG_9485.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9485.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I trimmed the sides of the lower cowl and then sanded them so that they tuck in against the hinge (which I also drilled but didn&#8217;t get a picture of). \u00a0I drilled one hole through the top of each side into the hinge to lock the position of the lower cowl in place.
