{"id":713,"date":"2011-10-16T17:04:30","date_gmt":"2011-10-16T17:04:30","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-10T16:37:44","modified_gmt":"2017-12-10T16:37:44","slug":"installed-control-sticks-and-s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2011\/10\/16\/installed-control-sticks-and-s\/","title":{"rendered":"Installed Control Sticks and Started Aileron Trim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the engine controls in their final location, I marked both sticks and cut them off. \u00a0I&#8217;m using the teak grips, so they extend the sticks a couple of inches or so. \u00a0For reference, I cut 4 1\/4&#8243; off the pilot&#8217;s stick and 3 11\/16&#8243; off of the co-pilot&#8217;s stick. \u00a0This puts the bottom of the grips (and therefore the hand) the same distance from the pivot point for either stick.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111016\/IMG_9824.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9824.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I needed to cut this much off to ensure the grip clears the throttle when at idle. \u00a0This gives me a comfortable clearance even with my finger on top of the grip. \u00a0It might be a little tight if my hand is resting on the throttle at the same time, but I don&#8217;t want to cut off any more than I need to.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111016\/IMG_9830.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9830.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I installed both sticks and the push-rod that connects them.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111016\/IMG_9825.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9825.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The pushrod transfers the aileron control between the sticks and between the wings. \u00a0I did forget to install the aileron trim clips the first time I installed the pushrod.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111016\/IMG_9826.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9826.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s where the clip should be installed. \u00a0When the ailerons are in the neutral position, the clip points at the end of the trim servo arm. \u00a0The clip is bent out away from the pushrod just enough that the trim spring doesn&#8217;t touch the pushrod.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111016\/IMG_9827.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9827.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>When the stick is in the full forward and left position, the spring is attached to the trim servo arm so that the spring is very slightly extended. \u00a0This prevents the spring from ever going slack regardless of the position of the controls. \u00a0There will be another spring tying the co-pilot&#8217;s stick to the other hole in the trim servo arm.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111016\/IMG_9828.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9828.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The bundle of wires from the pilot&#8217;s stick exits through the bottom (between the bearings) and is tied to the connecting pushrod in a couple of spots to prevent interference with the trim spring and the adjacent rib. \u00a0The bay just inboard of the stick will provide room for the wire bundle to flex as the stick is moved.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111016\/IMG_9829.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_9829.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the engine controls in their final location, I marked both sticks and cut them off. \u00a0I&#8217;m using the teak grips, so they extend the sticks a couple of inches or so. \u00a0For reference, I cut 4 1\/4&#8243;
