{"id":660,"date":"2011-12-28T17:00:59","date_gmt":"2011-12-28T17:00:59","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-10T21:58:50","modified_gmt":"2017-12-10T21:58:50","slug":"more-progress-modifying-baffle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2011\/12\/28\/more-progress-modifying-baffle\/","title":{"rendered":"More Progress Modifying Baffles for ECI Tapered Cylinders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Where the baffles end, a tapered shim needs to be fabricated so that the baffles seal tight against the fins. \u00a0This forces all of the cooling air to go between the fins instead of around them.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111228\/IMG_0127.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0127.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This shim will be riveted to the flange on the end of the curved portion of the baffles.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111228\/IMG_0128.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0128.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I left the new piece long while fitting it. \u00a0I&#8217;ll trim it off flush with the existing flange now that the holes are drilled and its position is fixed.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111228\/IMG_0129.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0129-8.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what it looks like with everything riveted together.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111228\/IMG_0130.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0130.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>From the other side, you can see the ears of the side piece and the rivet that ties it to the tapered shim.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111228\/IMG_0131.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0131-4.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The modifications for cylinders 1-3 are pretty much the same. \u00a0The modification for cylinder #4 is quite a bit different. \u00a0It wraps much farther around the cylinder and the width of this side piece gets larger near the top. \u00a0I trimmed it to roughly follow the ear that rests above one of the cylinder mounting nuts. \u00a0All of the gaps will be filled with high-temp RTV silicone.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111228\/IMG_0132.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0132.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This picture gives you an idea how the shim follows the taper of the barrel fins.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111228\/IMG_0133.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0133.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the completed #2 cylinder baffle mod. \u00a0I still have the #1 and #3 cylinders to do, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20111228\/IMG_0134.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0134.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Where the baffles end, a tapered shim needs to be fabricated so that the baffles seal tight against the fins. \u00a0This forces all of the cooling air to go between the fins instead of around them.
