{"id":655,"date":"2012-01-08T17:00:59","date_gmt":"2012-01-08T17:00:59","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-11T16:22:38","modified_gmt":"2017-12-11T16:22:38","slug":"fabricated-front-ramp-brackets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2012\/01\/08\/fabricated-front-ramp-brackets\/","title":{"rendered":"Fabricated Front Ramp Brackets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I never liked the old tach cover (see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2010\/05\/14\/engine-fittings-firewall-passt\/\">this entry<\/a>). \u00a0Although it was safety wired, that didn&#8217;t prevent it from unscrewing and bouncing around behind the engine. \u00a0I recently found out that Andair made this nice machined tach cover with integral o-ring. \u00a0I swapped it out and safety wired it to the same spot on the engine. \u00a0There&#8217;s no way this is coming off.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20120108\/IMG_0151.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0151.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I fabricated the three front ramp support brackets. \u00a0This is the one that ties the right ramp to the right center baffle. \u00a0I left the bottom flange long on both ends until I know the left-right position of the vertical face. \u00a0I&#8217;ll then drill this to the right ramp and cut the ends of the flange parallel with the angle on the left.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20120108\/IMG_0152.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0152.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>These are the brackets that tie the left ramp to the left center baffle. \u00a0I positioned the vertical face against the side of the lower cowl inlet (with a piece of baffle seal between them) and then drilled the support on the left to lock in the position. \u00a0I then pulled the lower cowl and back drilled the support on the right through the existing hole in the ramp and support that sits just under the ramp. \u00a0I then pulled the bracket and drilled two more holes in line with that hole and then match drilled them to the ramp. \u00a0Getting all of this in the right position was a little tricky until I figured out the order, but everything worked out nicely.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20120108\/IMG_0153.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0153.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I deburred everything and riveted the support brackets to the ramps and front center baffles. \u00a0The plans call for universal rivets here, but I might have to swap the rivets on the left bracket out for a flush head since the baffle seal material will rest here.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20120108\/IMG_0154.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0154.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the bracket for the right ramp.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20120108\/IMG_0155.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0155.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I never liked the old tach cover (see\u00a0this entry). \u00a0Although it was safety wired, that didn&#8217;t prevent it from unscrewing and bouncing around behind the engine. \u00a0I recently found out that Andair made this nice machined tach cover with integral o-ring. \u00a0I swapped it out and safety wired it to the same spot on the &hellip;
