{"id":540,"date":"2012-11-27T16:57:32","date_gmt":"2012-11-27T16:57:32","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-12T07:26:13","modified_gmt":"2017-12-12T07:26:13","slug":"fit-lower-left-cowl-inlet-baff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2012\/11\/27\/fit-lower-left-cowl-inlet-baff\/","title":{"rendered":"Fit Lower Left Cowl Inlet Baffle Seal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I cut a piece of baffle seal material to fit to the lower left cowl inlet and cut screw holes in it.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20121127\/IMG_0595.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0595.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>After attaching the baffle strip to the cowl inlet, I reinstalled the lower cowl to check the fit. \u00a0The baffle seal is cut back through the middle to expose the entire air filter, but goes back a little farther around the baffles to provide a little more overlap.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20121127\/IMG_0596.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0596.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a shot of the outside edge of the inlet showing how the baffle seal material follows the conical gusset.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20121127\/IMG_0599.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0599.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>On the inside edge of the inlet, the baffle seal makes a sharp turn to tuck into the corner between the floor and wall of the baffles.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20121127\/IMG_0600.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0600.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a shot looking forward showing how nicely the baffle seal material tucks into the corner. \u00a0There will be some RTV silicone sealing the gaps between the floor and the wall, so I&#8217;ll probably make a little fillet here to prevent air from leaking through the gap. \u00a0You might think I&#8217;m being anal about sealing every little gap (and I am), but any air that comes in the cowl inlets and isn&#8217;t used for cooling is unnecessary drag.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20121127\/IMG_0601.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0601.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This is looking forward at the outer edge of the inlet at the conical gusset. \u00a0You can see that the baffle seal material lays down fairly well against the gusset. \u00a0Once the plane is flying and the engine heat warms this up, it will take a set and should lay down nice and tight.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20121127\/IMG_0602.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0602.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I cut a piece of baffle seal material to fit to the lower left cowl inlet and cut screw holes in it.
