{"id":451,"date":"2013-08-31T16:54:05","date_gmt":"2013-08-31T16:54:05","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-13T01:46:30","modified_gmt":"2017-12-13T01:46:30","slug":"miscellaneous-work-on-empennag","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2013\/08\/31\/miscellaneous-work-on-empennag\/","title":{"rendered":"Miscellaneous Work on Empennage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I drilled a hole in the aft spar of the left elevator so I could use a loop of safety wire to secure the trim tab hinge pin.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20130831\/IMG_0896.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0896.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The hinge pin tucks under the spar flange to prevent it from lifting.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20130831\/IMG_0897.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0897.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>From the top, you can see how little of the hinge pin is visible.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20130831\/IMG_0898.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0898.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I left a small amount of the pin visible at the other end of the hinge so that it&#8217;s easy to confirm the hinge is fully inserted during pre-flight.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20130831\/IMG_0899.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0899.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I pulled the plane out of the garage so that I could rearrange it to work on the empennage. \u00a0First up, I riveted and bolted on the up elevator stop.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20130831\/IMG_0900.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0900.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I then riveted on the plate that ties the vertical stabilizer&#8217;s forward spar to the horizontal stabilizer&#8217;s front spar.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20130831\/IMG_0901.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0901.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>After spending most of the day cleaning out the garage, the plane is safely tucked back in.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20130831\/IMG_0902.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0902.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>In this orientation, I can actually completely install the empennage and still get the garage door closed. \u00a0I can&#8217;t walk around the plane that way though, so I&#8217;ll likely leave off the rudder and right elevator most of the time though.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20130831\/IMG_0903.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0903.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I installed the steering link so that I could adjust the length.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20130831\/IMG_0904.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0904.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Finally, I decided how I was going to mount the ELT antenna, and drilled a hole in the bulkhead and installed the antenna. \u00a0I still need to figure out how I&#8217;m going to secure the other end of the antenna so that it doesn&#8217;t bounce around inside the tail.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20130831\/IMG_0907.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0907.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I drilled a hole in the aft spar of the left elevator so I could use a loop of safety wire to secure the trim tab hinge pin.
