{"id":435,"date":"2013-10-12T16:54:05","date_gmt":"2013-10-12T16:54:05","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-13T02:01:29","modified_gmt":"2017-12-13T02:01:29","slug":"glassed-leading-edges-of-eleva","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2013\/10\/12\/glassed-leading-edges-of-eleva\/","title":{"rendered":"Glassed Leading Edges of Elevator Horns and Horizontal Stabilizer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I had hoped not to do this, but I removed the horizontal stabilizer to make glassing the tips easier.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131012\/IMG_0973.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0973.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I had previously put a layer of glass over this joint way back when I first built the horizontal stabilizer, but I didn&#8217;t know that I needed to rough both surfaces up then, so I had to remove the old glass, rough up the surfaces with 80 grit sandpaper and re-glass them.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131012\/IMG_0974.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0974.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I also glassed over the leading edges of the elevator counterweight horns. \u00a0You can also see here how I clamped my horizontal stabilizer to the bench. \u00a0I screwed a small piece of plywood to the bench and then clamped the forward spar to it. \u00a0I can hang the elevators from the horizontal stabilizer this way and fair the tips together so that they&#8217;re perfectly aligned.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131012\/IMG_0975.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0975.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had hoped not to do this, but I removed the horizontal stabilizer to make glassing the tips easier.
