{"id":424,"date":"2013-11-20T16:54:04","date_gmt":"2013-11-20T16:54:04","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-13T02:11:35","modified_gmt":"2017-12-13T02:11:35","slug":"glassed-bottom-of-right-wingti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2013\/11\/20\/glassed-bottom-of-right-wingti\/","title":{"rendered":"Glassed Bottom of Right Wingtip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The trailing edge glue-up turned out perfectly. \u00a0The trailing edge is perfectly in line with the aileron. \u00a0I still need to glue up the trailing edge, but I wanted to reinforce the wingtips before doing so.<\/p>\n<p>The wingtips need reinforcement since they can easily be depressed. \u00a0This is because the wingtips just have a thin layer of fiberglass and no core material like the cowl to stiffen it. \u00a0Many builders install foam ribs or dowels, but I wanted to try reinforcing the whole surface. \u00a0I picked up some Coremat from Tap Plastics and bonded it to the bottom of the right wingtip and then added a couple of layers of 8.9oz glass.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131120\/IMG_1003.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1003.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Afterward, I installed the wingtip so that the fiberglass will cure with the right curvature. \u00a0This took way longer than expected, and I still have the upper surface of the right wingtip and both sides of the left wingtip to do. \u00a0You can see the pattern I made for the fiberglass hanging over the other wingtip.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131120\/IMG_1004.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1004.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The trailing edge glue-up turned out perfectly. \u00a0The trailing edge is perfectly in line with the aileron. \u00a0I still need to glue up the trailing edge, but I wanted to reinforce the wingtips before doing so.
