{"id":415,"date":"2013-11-30T16:54:04","date_gmt":"2013-11-30T16:54:04","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-13T02:21:07","modified_gmt":"2017-12-13T02:21:07","slug":"empennage-fairings-and-rear-wi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2013\/11\/30\/empennage-fairings-and-rear-wi\/","title":{"rendered":"Empennage Fairings and Rear Window"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The rudder bottom fairing patch has cured. \u00a0After filing down the high spots and giving it a quick sanding, I applied some epoxy\/microlight filler. \u00a0The leading edge of the fairing also needs to be built up a bit to match the rolled leading edge of the rudder.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131130\/IMG_1049.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1049.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I also added some filler to fair in the horizontal stabilizer and elevators. \u00a0Here&#8217;s the right side.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131130\/IMG_1050.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1050.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;and here&#8217;s the left.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131130\/IMG_1051.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1051.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I removed the rear window because the masking tape I applied a few years ago was all dried out and stuck tight. \u00a0I used some mineral spirits to soften the adhesive and removed all of the tape. \u00a0This took much longer than expected, but I wanted to use a mild solvent to avoid damaging the plexiglass. \u00a0After reinstalling the window, I laid a line of tape to mark where the Sikaflex primer will go.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131130\/IMG_1052.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1052.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to paint the inside of the rear window where it passes over the roll bar support channel. \u00a0I&#8217;ve noticed on other planes that it&#8217;s often fairly dusty on top of the channel, and it&#8217;s pretty tight against the window, especially toward the back.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131130\/IMG_1053.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1053.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>After the horizontal stabilizer and elevator filler cured, I filed and sanded it down so that they&#8217;re faired together nicely.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131130\/IMG_1054.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1054.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I needed just a little bit more along the leading edges of the elevators.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131130\/IMG_1055.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1055.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I also sanded down the filler I applied to the bottom of the rudder. \u00a0There were a couple of low spots, so I added a little bit more.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131130\/IMG_1056.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1056.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The rudder bottom fairing patch has cured. \u00a0After filing down the high spots and giving it a quick sanding, I applied some epoxy\/microlight filler. \u00a0The leading edge of the fairing also needs to be built up a bit to match the rolled leading edge of the rudder.
