{"id":398,"date":"2013-12-23T16:54:04","date_gmt":"2013-12-23T16:54:04","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-13T02:37:09","modified_gmt":"2017-12-13T02:37:09","slug":"installed-canopy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2013\/12\/23\/installed-canopy\/","title":{"rendered":"Installed Canopy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I fabricated some spacers to hold the canopy frame bow in the correct position relative to the roll bar and then clamped the two together. \u00a0I also created some spacers out of some scrap baffle seal material to space the canopy the correct distance from the canopy frame bow. \u00a0I then removed the electrical tape that was along the top of the canopy frame bow and primed it with the Sika 209 primer.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131223\/IMG_1126.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1126.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I also masked and applied a couple of coats of the Sika 209 primer to the aft edge of the canopy.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131223\/IMG_1127.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1127.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I reinstalled the canopy and installed all of the screws along the sides.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131223\/IMG_1128.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1128.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I climbed inside through the open back window and applied a preliminary bead of Sikaflex 295 UV adhesive between the spacers. \u00a0Once the adhesive sets up, I&#8217;ll remove the spacers and apply a single bead across the whole box. \u00a0Getting inside this way was tough. \u00a0I&#8217;m 6&#8217;4&#8243;, so it was quite the contortion act. \u00a0I ended up laying down in the baggage area and slithering under the crossbar.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131223\/IMG_1130.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1130.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I added a little bit of weight across the center to hold the canopy down against the spacers.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131223\/IMG_1131.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1131.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>In preparation for fiberglassing the front edge of the canopy, I sanded the skin with some 80 grit sandpaper.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131223\/IMG_1129.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1129.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I then laid up some electrical tape to define the upper edge of the fiberglass fairing.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131223\/IMG_1133.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1133.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I laid up two layers of black electrical tape 1&#8243;
