{"id":394,"date":"2013-12-27T16:54:04","date_gmt":"2013-12-27T16:54:04","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-14T19:02:05","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T19:02:05","slug":"finished-rear-window-and-fiber","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2013\/12\/27\/finished-rear-window-and-fiber\/","title":{"rendered":"Finished Rear Window and Fiberglassed Leading Edge of Canopy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I came out this morning and pulled all of the spacers holding the rear window in place. \u00a0I closed the canopy to check the fit and I&#8217;m super happy with the fit. \u00a0I needed to apply sealant to both the front and back of the joint, so I climbed into the baggage area. \u00a0This was a huge pain, and I&#8217;m not looking forward to having to do this in the future for maintenance. \u00a0Since Jenn was entertained by my discomfort, she caught another picture of me.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131227\/IMG_1163.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1163.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>Here&#8217;s the finished bead of Sikflex. \u00a0The rear window is officially done!<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131227\/IMG_1164.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1164.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>With all the adhesive work done, I can start putting some of the interior in place. \u00a0I can&#8217;t install everything since I&#8217;ll still need access to do the final assembly, but I can go ahead and install some things that won&#8217;t need to come out. \u00a0First up is the seat belts.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131227\/IMG_1165.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1165.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>Next, I installed the upper side panels. \u00a0The lower panels can&#8217;t go in yet since the seat pans have to come out to attach the wings. \u00a0I also installed the pilot&#8217;s seat so that I could adjust the seat belts.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131227\/IMG_1167.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1167.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>In addition to sanding the skin in front of the canopy, I sanded the edge of the canopy in preparation for fiberglassing. \u00a0Also, the front edge of the canopy was sitting a bit above the canopy frame, so I fabricated three small clips that I pop riveted to the canopy frame to hold the edge down. \u00a0I painted the back side of these black so that they won&#8217;t show through on the inside.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131227\/IMG_1168.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1168.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>Here&#8217;s a closeup of one of the clips. \u00a0The outer two pop rivets are hidden inside by the canopy frame brace, but the center one will show on the inside, so I&#8217;ll have to paint it.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131227\/IMG_1169.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1169.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I mixed up some dry micro with some black pigment and filled the gap between the leading edge of the canopy and the skin.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20131227\/IMG_1170.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1170.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I impregnated some 8.9oz satin weave cloth with epoxy and marked strips of widths in 1\/4&#8243; increments from 1\/2&#8243; to 2&#8243;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pro-Tip:<\/strong> I really should have added some black pigment to the epoxy used in these strips.
