{"id":370,"date":"2014-01-26T16:50:40","date_gmt":"2014-01-26T16:50:40","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-17T07:40:57","modified_gmt":"2017-12-17T07:40:57","slug":"weight-and-balance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2014\/01\/26\/weight-and-balance\/","title":{"rendered":"Weight and Balance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My big goal for the day was to compute the weight and balance. \u00a0To do that, I needed to have the plane ready for flight.<\/p>\n<p>In preparation for reinstalling the canopy (hopefully for the last time), I applied a strip of UHMW tape under the leading edge. \u00a0This will help the flange slide over the weatherstripping without catching and dragging on it.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20140126\/IMG_1321.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1321.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I then used a razor blade to trim the tape flush width the edges of the skin.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20140126\/IMG_1323.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1323.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I then installed the wing root fairing. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t bother tightening all of the screws all of the way since that wouldn&#8217;t change the weight or CG.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20140126\/IMG_1324.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1324.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>The plans say to trim the rubber seal to just touch the fuselage, but I think it looks better to leave the whole seal and have it flare out at the fuselage. \u00a0It probably seals against the fuselage better too.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20140126\/IMG_1327.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1327.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I also installed the wingtips with the landing lights and mounting plates.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20140126\/IMG_1325.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1325.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I reinstalled the spinner and the cowl.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20140126\/IMG_1326.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1326.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>Jenn stopped by the hangar and helped me install the canopy.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20140126\/IMG_1328.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1328.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I then installed all of the interior.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20140126\/IMG_1329.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1329.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>After installing the empennage fairings and all of the wing inspection panels, I leveled the plane and put it on scales. \u00a0I came in right at 1100 lbs which is great. \u00a0It probably means I&#8217;ll be around 1130 or so with gear fairings and paint. \u00a0My center of gravity is farther aft than I would have liked at 81.35&#8243;, or 2.65&#8243; aft of the forward limit. \u00a0This makes it fairly easy to load aft of the aft CG limit, so I&#8217;m likely going to have to shift some weight forward or add more weight under the cowl.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20140126\/IMG_1330.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_1330.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My big goal for the day was to compute the weight and balance. \u00a0To do that, I needed to have the plane ready for flight.
