{"id":362,"date":"2014-02-03T16:50:40","date_gmt":"2014-02-03T16:50:40","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-13T16:23:32","modified_gmt":"2017-12-13T16:23:32","slug":"repaired-cowl-damage-from-spin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2014\/02\/03\/repaired-cowl-damage-from-spin\/","title":{"rendered":"Repaired Cowl Damage From Spinner Screws"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I did the first taxi test, I had incorrectly installed the screws that tie the conical section of the spinner backplate halves together. \u00a0I forgot that there was a note in the installation manual that the screw heads needed to be on the aft side to provide clearance between the spinner and cowl. I installed the nut on the aft side, and the ends of the screws cut into the cowl flange a bit. \u00a0I ground all of the damaged material out of the cowl and then applied a thin layer of raw epoxy to coat the inside of the cut. \u00a0In addition to reversing the screws, I switched from AN515 to AN525 screws to further reduce the height of the head.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20140203\/IMG_2178.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_2178.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>My flox is down at the hangar, so I cut up a small piece of fiberglass cloth into tiny pieces and mixed it into some epoxy. \u00a0I filled the gap with this and left it a little proud of the surface. \u00a0I&#8217;ll grind this flat once the epoxy cures.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20140203\/IMG_2180.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_2180.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>While the epoxy was curing, I sanded both cowl air inlet on the top and bottom. \u00a0The cowl is very close to getting the first coat of primer.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20140203\/IMG_2181.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_2181.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I did the first taxi test, I had incorrectly installed the screws that tie the conical section of the spinner backplate halves together. \u00a0I forgot that there was a note in the installation manual that the screw heads needed to be on the aft side to provide clearance between the spinner and cowl.
