{"id":1314,"date":"2009-02-13T17:23:07","date_gmt":"2009-02-13T17:23:07","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-14T16:16:42","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T16:16:42","slug":"horizontal-stabilizer-structur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2009\/02\/13\/horizontal-stabilizer-structur\/","title":{"rendered":"Horizontal Stabilizer Structure Fully Assembled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After fluting and straightening HS-405, I match drilled it to the rear spar in preparation for drilling it in conjunction with the skin.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090213\/CIMG0037.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0037.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here are the two HS-405 ribs drilled to the skin (the ribs in the center with the lightening holes).<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090213\/CIMG0039.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0039.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t seen these LockJaw vise clamps, you should really check them out. \u00a0Instead of the typical vice grips that have an adjusting screw that adjusts the jaw separation when closed, these have an adjusting screw that adjusts the clamping pressure. \u00a0Once you set the clamping pressure you want, you can clamp material of various thicknesses with no further adjustment. \u00a0I really dig it when somebody creates a clever tool like this.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090213\/CIMG0038.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0038.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here is the HS-404 nose rib drilled to the skin. \u00a0Getting this matched drilled to HS-405 was kind of a bitch. \u00a0Van&#8217;s recommends using an angle drill, but because of the tight fit, I couldn&#8217;t get it remotely perpendicular to the front flange of HS-405. \u00a0I ended up using a 12&#8243; #30 drill bit from below and flexed the drill bit enough to get perpendicular to the flange.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090213\/CIMG0040.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0040.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This looks a lot like the picture above, but here, the skins have all been match drilled to the internal structure. \u00a0The skins are ready to come off and get deburred and dimpled, but I&#8217;m beat. \u00a0I built these benches a couple of inches taller than the plans since I&#8217;m 6&#8242; 4&#8243;, but I now wish I had gone up a few more inches. \u00a0I spent a lot of the night hunched over and my back is killing me.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090213\/CIMG0041.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0041.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After fluting and straightening HS-405, I match drilled it to the rear spar in preparation for drilling it in conjunction with the skin.
