{"id":1299,"date":"2009-03-09T17:23:07","date_gmt":"2009-03-09T17:23:07","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-14T18:48:04","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T18:48:04","slug":"rudder-skeleton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2009\/03\/09\/rudder-skeleton\/","title":{"rendered":"Rudder Skeleton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I began assembling the rudder skeleton tonight. \u00a0First up is to drill out the 3\/8&#8243; hole through the lower part of the spar where the lower hinge bracket will attach.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090304\/CIMG0083.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0083.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nNext is to fit the rudder horn in place and match drill it to the spar. \u00a0This view is looking aft from the bottom of the rudder. \u00a0The outer holes at the top of the horn will eventually attach to rudder cables coming out the side of the rear part of the fuselage. \u00a0The lower holes are for chains that will connect to the tailwheel assembly (though I&#8217;ll almost certainly use the rocket steering link).<\/p>\n<p><center><a style=\"text-decoration: none;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090304\/CIMG0084.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0084.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nI started to flute the tip rib when I noticed that the rib is apparently bent incorrectly. \u00a0The flange (and therefore hole) on the right side are almost 1\/8&#8243; higher than the flange and hole on the left side. \u00a0I clecoed on the skin, and this definitely causes alignment problems. \u00a0I&#8217;ll shoot Van&#8217;s an email tomorrow and see if they can send me a new rib.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090304\/CIMG0088.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0088.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I began assembling the rudder skeleton tonight. \u00a0First up is to drill out the 3\/8&#8243; hole through the lower part of the spar where the lower hinge bracket will attach.
