{"id":1297,"date":"2009-03-06T17:23:07","date_gmt":"2009-03-06T17:23:07","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-14T18:28:53","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T18:28:53","slug":"finished-drilling-rudder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2009\/03\/06\/finished-drilling-rudder\/","title":{"rendered":"Finished Drilling Rudder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This looks a lot like the picture from yesterday, but now the rudder has been fully drilled and is ready for disassembly and prep for riveting.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090306\/CIMG0094.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0094.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nAfter disassembling, I drilled the rudder counterweight to the R-912 counterbalance rib, dimpled the rib and countersunk the lead weight to\u00a0accommodate\u00a0the dimples.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090306\/CIMG0095.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0095.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nYou have to make the rudder bottom attach strips from a piece of 0.032&#8243; alclad. \u00a0Basically, you just cut these to 18&#8243; and trim the corner as specified.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090306\/CIMG0093.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0093.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nHere are the strips, temporarily clamped to the R-904 bottom rib to match drill with the existing holes. \u00a0Holes in the lower half of this strip will be drilled in conjunction with the fiberglass rudder bottom.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090306\/CIMG0096.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0096.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nThe R-913 counterbalance skin in 0.032&#8243;, and because the rudder skin is 0.016&#8243;, the overlap can cause a visible joggle in the rudder skin. \u00a0Beveling the two points on each side of the counterbalance skin where these two skins overlap with the underlying structure smoothes out this transition.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090307\/CIMG0097.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0097.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This looks a lot like the picture from yesterday, but now the rudder has been fully drilled and is ready for disassembly and prep for riveting.
