{"id":1292,"date":"2009-03-12T17:23:07","date_gmt":"2009-03-12T17:23:07","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-14T18:48:56","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T18:48:56","slug":"finished-rudder-skeleton-and-r","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2009\/03\/12\/finished-rudder-skeleton-and-r\/","title":{"rendered":"Finished Rudder Skeleton and Riveted Rudder Stiffeners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jenn helped me shoot the last two rivets (seen here at the far left and right edged inside the rudder brace hole). \u00a0Jenn had never riveted before, but she picked it up quickly and did a great job.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090312\/CIMG0117.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0117.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nHere are the rest of the rivets that hold the rudder brace on. \u00a0I managed to get all solid rivets in here without too much trouble. \u00a0This would have been nearly impossible without the longeron yoke. \u00a0A lot of people wait until the fuselage to order the longeron yoke, but it&#8217;s been invaluable on the empennage. \u00a0There have already been a number of spots that couldn&#8217;t be squeezed any other way.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090312\/CIMG0118.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0118.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nI riveted all of the rudder stiffeners on this morning before work since I&#8217;ve been getting home too late to do it before the kids go to bed.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090312\/CIMG0114.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0114.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nThese rivets are back-riveted which means the rivet gun forms the shop head while the manufactured head rests against a back-rivet place (in this case a large piece of cold rolled steel that I picked up at a local metal supply shop. \u00a0Below, you can see the rivet tape that is used to hold the rivets in place until they&#8217;re driven. \u00a0As everyone says, back-riveting rocks. \u00a0The skin is amazingly smooth.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090312\/CIMG0115.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0115.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nHere is the structure all clecoed together. \u00a0Most if not all of the remaining rivets except the trailing edge can be squeezed. \u00a0I&#8217;ll knock that out tomorrow and then get started on the trailing edge.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090312\/CIMG0116.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0116.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jenn helped me shoot the last two rivets (seen here at the far left and right edged inside the rudder brace hole). \u00a0Jenn had never riveted before, but she picked it up quickly and did a great job.
