{"id":1278,"date":"2009-03-28T17:21:36","date_gmt":"2009-03-28T17:21:36","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-14T19:09:57","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T19:09:57","slug":"riveted-right-elevator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2009\/03\/28\/riveted-right-elevator\/","title":{"rendered":"Riveted Right Elevator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I started by riveting the hinge reinforcement plates and platenuts to the elevator spars. \u00a0I&#8217;m still working on both elevators to save time.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090328\/CIMG0163.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0163.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nHere is the trim servo supports, back-riveted to the trim cover plate.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090328\/CIMG0164.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0164.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nAnd here is the servo, mounted to the supports.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090328\/CIMG0165.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0165.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nI riveted the root ribs onto the spars. \u00a0This is the root rib for the left elevator. \u00a0You can see it has a blunt end where the trim spar attaches.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090328\/CIMG0166.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0166.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nThe instructions are definitely not in the best order here. \u00a0They have you rivet E-703 (end rib) to E-704 (counterbalance rib) before riveting them both to the spar. \u00a0The problem with that is that these rivets can&#8217;t be squeezed if you do that and must be shot\/bucked (probably with a double offset set). \u00a0Instead, I squeezed these now while they&#8217;re easy to reach.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090328\/CIMG0167.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0167.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nAnd then squeezed the rivets holding E-703 to E-704.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090328\/CIMG0168.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0168.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nThe elevator horns can now be riveted on.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090328\/CIMG0169.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0169.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\nI added a dab of RTV to the back end of each stiffener pair to tie them together. \u00a0This helps prevent cracking here according to Van&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090328\/CIMG0170.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0170.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>And the right elevator is complete except for the leading edge rolling.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20090328\/CIMG0171.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0171.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I started by riveting the hinge reinforcement plates and platenuts to the elevator spars. \u00a0I&#8217;m still working on both elevators to save time.
