{"id":1162,"date":"2009-10-02T17:18:13","date_gmt":"2009-10-02T17:18:13","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-03T07:16:43","modified_gmt":"2017-12-03T07:16:43","slug":"ailerons-and-related-tasks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2009\/10\/02\/ailerons-and-related-tasks\/","title":{"rendered":"Ailerons and Related Tasks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I started out by fitting the aileron hinge brackets on the right wing. \u00a0One of the rivets interfered \u00a0 with the hinge bracket slightly. \u00a0A few seconds on the scotchbrite wheel took care of that and the hinge bracket now fits perfectly.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091002\/CIMG0595.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0595.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I finished up deburring the aileron components and started working on dimpling the various components. \u00a0Dimpling the spar is tight, so I ground part of my 1\/8&#8243; female dimple die to allow me to fit in there.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091002\/CIMG0596.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0596.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I also ended up grinding off part of my 1.5&#8243; yoke so that it wouldn&#8217;t scrape along the spar.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091002\/CIMG0597.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0597.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>Here you can see that I can easily reach the spar dimples now without scraping the spar web or hitting the flange radius.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091002\/CIMG0599.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0599.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>My shipment from Aircraft Spruce showed up today, so I used a couple of the adel clamps to secure the roll servo wiring harness. \u00a0You&#8217;ll also notice that I added heat shrink material over the connection to not only hold it together and keep it from being exposed to the elements, but it also prevents it from scraping the spar.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091002\/CIMG0603.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0603.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I cleaned, etched, and primed all of the aileron components.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091003\/CIMG0604.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0604.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>First up is to rivet on the spar reinforcing plates. \u00a0The inboard ends each get a K1000-03 nutplate riveted on with flush rivets. \u00a0The inner row of holes on each reinforcing plate get riveted now as well since there is nothing else that attaches there.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091003\/CIMG0605.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0605.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>The nose ribs get blind riveted to the counterweight.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091003\/CIMG0606.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0606.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>Then the nose ribs get dropped into the leading edge skins and the spars are riveted to them (the closer row of three rivets here just above the nutplate).<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091003\/CIMG0607.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0607.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>Finally, the trailing edge skin is clecoed along the top side of the spar. \u00a0It&#8217;s far too late to think about riveting this tonight (almost 2 am as I&#8217;m writing this), so I&#8217;m done for the night.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091003\/CIMG0608.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0608.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I started out by fitting the aileron hinge brackets on the right wing. \u00a0One of the rivets interfered \u00a0 with the hinge bracket slightly. \u00a0A few seconds on the scotchbrite wheel took care of that and the hinge bracket now fits perfectly.
