{"id":1107,"date":"2009-12-07T17:18:12","date_gmt":"2009-12-07T17:18:12","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-04T04:24:52","modified_gmt":"2017-12-04T04:24:52","slug":"assembled-tailcone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2009\/12\/07\/assembled-tailcone\/","title":{"rendered":"Assembled Tailcone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went out this morning before work and drilled the tailwheel spring mount to the F-711. \u00a0It took quite a while to ensure that the mount was centered, square, and the tailwheel was exactly vertical.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091207\/CIMG0819.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0819.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>F-712 gets a couple of keeper rivets to hold the mount in place until the bolt holes can be drilled in conjunction with the vertical stabilizer rear spar.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091207\/CIMG0820.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0820.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, one of the holes came out slightly under the recommended edge distance of 1.5D (12\/32&#8243; in this case). \u00a0I need to run this by Van&#8217;s and see if they think this is an issue.<\/p>\n<p><b>Update:<\/b>\u00a0Ken Scott at Van&#8217;s said not to worry about 1\/32&#8243;, especially in steel. \u00a0&#8220;Build on&#8221; as they say&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091207\/CIMG0821.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0821.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I clecoed the tailcone together. \u00a0Getting the stringers in gets a little tough once all of the bulkheads are in place, but I eventually got it. \u00a0The ends of the lower four stringers need notches cut in each end to clear the bulkheads.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091207\/CIMG0822.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0822.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a shot looking down the tailcone from the other end. \u00a0The vertical rib connecting the top an bottom of the closest bulkhead as well as the horizontal rib that connect the closest two bulkheads are supposed to be off center.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091207\/CIMG0823.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0823.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The holes in the tail skin don&#8217;t even come close to lining up with the holes in the side skin. \u00a0I need to do a little research on this to see how to get these to align. \u00a0I can&#8217;t just pry them into alignment since there is a stringer right on the other side of these holes that would prevent inserting a cleco through the hole after aligning.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091207\/CIMG0825.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0825.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I went out this morning before work and drilled the tailwheel spring mount to the F-711. \u00a0It took quite a while to ensure that the mount was centered, square, and the tailwheel was exactly vertical.
