{"id":1103,"date":"2009-12-11T17:18:12","date_gmt":"2009-12-11T17:18:12","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-04T04:53:42","modified_gmt":"2017-12-04T04:53:42","slug":"finished-aft-fuselage-fabricat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2009\/12\/11\/finished-aft-fuselage-fabricat\/","title":{"rendered":"Finished Aft Fuselage Fabrication"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I had a couple of tasks to take care of before disassembling the aft fuselage. \u00a0First up is to mount the autopilot pitch servo mounting bracket. \u00a0The forward edge of this has to be 3.43&#8243; from the center of the 1\/4&#8243; pivot hole for the elevator bellcrank. \u00a0This required drilling out three rivets so the mounting plate could sit flush. \u00a0If you&#8217;re installing a dynon autopilot, just leave these rivets out from the beginning and save yourself the time.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091211\/CIMG0831.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0831.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how the bracket sits against the rib. \u00a0The flange on the bottom can be cut off or drilled to the skin (which I&#8217;m doing).<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091211\/CIMG0832.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0832.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>After match drilling the bracket to the rib, I laid out for rivet holes aligned with the ones in the rib (as if aesthetics matter on the bottom of the aircraft).<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091211\/CIMG0833.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0833.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>After clecoing the structure back to the bottom skin (and using a clamp to keep the bracket tight against the rib), I match drilled the skin to the bracket.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091211\/CIMG0834.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0834.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The F-710 bulkhead needs a piece of 1\/8&#8243;x1&#8243;x1&#8243; angle fabricated to sit at the top edge. \u00a0The ends have to be tapered and shaped to nest into the longerons.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091212\/CIMG0835.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0835.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The F-711 bulkhead also needs a piece of 1\/8&#8243;x3\/4&#8243;x3\/4&#8243; angle, also with tapered and shaped ends. \u00a0This won&#8217;t get riveted on until the side skins are riveted to the longerons.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091212\/CIMG0836.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0836.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here you can see why. \u00a0The longerons rivet to this flange on the bulkhead which is covered by the angle I just fabricated. \u00a0In fact, I had to notch the ends of the angle here to clear the future shop head for this rivet.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091212\/CIMG0837.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0837.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The tailcone is now fully disassembled so I can begin deburring, dimpling, and priming.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091212\/CIMG0838.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0838.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The bracket is 0.048&#8243;
