{"id":1091,"date":"2009-12-26T17:18:12","date_gmt":"2009-12-26T17:18:12","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-04T05:11:02","modified_gmt":"2017-12-04T05:11:02","slug":"drilled-seat-and-baggage-ribs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2009\/12\/26\/drilled-seat-and-baggage-ribs\/","title":{"rendered":"Drilled Seat and Baggage Ribs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I started tonight by match drilling the bottom skin to the seat and baggage ribs as well as the F-704 and F-705 bulkheads. \u00a0Next I got started on the F-623 side ribs. \u00a0There is a joggle in these that makes it look like it could nest inside F-705, but this is apparently a holdover from the RV-6 and must be cut off.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091226\/CIMG0902.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0902.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The side rib should sit behind F-705 like this. \u00a0They will be connected with a strap that has to be fabricated.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091226\/CIMG0903.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0903.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The aft end of the side rib must be cut off as well. I positioned a ruler where the front edge of the F-706 bulkhead will sit and marked the rib.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091226\/CIMG0904.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0904.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>After cutting of the ends, I clamped the rib in place and match drilled it to the bottom skin.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091226\/CIMG0905.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0905.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The plans specify attachment straps that connect F-623 to F-705 that are 3\/4&#8243; wide. \u00a0This is too wide to hit just one row of rivets here, but not wide enough to catch both rows. \u00a0Most builders just narrow the strip to 1\/2&#8243; and catch just the outer row of rivets, but I decided to make the strip a little wider and catch both rows of rivets.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091226\/CIMG0906.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0906.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The aft attachment straps will have edge distance problems if fabricated according to plans. \u00a0Instead, I made the strap widen somewhat as it exits F-623 so that the aft rivet (on the right in the picture below) will have sufficient edge distance on all sides.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091226\/CIMG0908.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0908.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I clamped the two side ribs together to transfer the cut marks from one to the other.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091226\/CIMG0909.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0909.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I clamped the two halves of F-704 together using the spacers I made and some hardware store 7\/16&#8243; bolts. \u00a0I put two of the close tolerance bolts in place (one in each end) to ensure the bulkhead halves were perfectly aligned since the hardware store bolts allowed a little slop.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091226\/CIMG0911.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0911.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I then clecoed the side skin doublers in place and match drilled them to the F-704 side pieces.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091226\/CIMG0912.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0912.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Four of the rivets along the front edge of F-704 must be countersunk so that the F-704 flange isn&#8217;t dimpled. \u00a0This is to allow the floor stiffeners to nest against this flange.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091226\/CIMG0913.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0913.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The bottom skins is only 0.025&#8243;
