{"id":1090,"date":"2009-12-27T17:18:12","date_gmt":"2009-12-27T17:18:12","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-04T05:12:24","modified_gmt":"2017-12-04T05:12:24","slug":"finished-prepping-center-secti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2009\/12\/27\/finished-prepping-center-secti\/","title":{"rendered":"Finished Prepping Center Section"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I started today by installing the crotch strap brackets. \u00a0I&#8217;m either going with Hooker or Crow harnesses, but either way, the spacing between the brackets has to be increased to 5\/16&#8243; (instead of the stock 1\/8&#8243; spacing). \u00a0Mike Bullock already determined the best way to accomplish this and documented it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rvplane.com\/?categoryid=4&amp;dayid=388\">here<\/a>, so I&#8217;m just going to copy his method (thanks Mike). \u00a0I put a center line that is aligned with middle nutplate, then measured 7\/32&#8243; forward and 3\/32&#8243; aft of this line and put additional marks.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091227\/CIMG0917.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0917.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The front side of the bracket is positioned with the web flush with the forward line and drilled to the adjacent ribs.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091227\/CIMG0918.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0918.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Instead of cutting a 5\/16&#8243; spacer, I just used a couple of AN5 bolts which are 5\/16&#8243; in diameter. \u00a0I taped them in place and clamped the aft side of the bracket against the bolts and against the seat pan, then drilled the bracket to the adjacent ribs.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091227\/CIMG0919.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0919.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The prepunched holes in the seat pan need to be drilled to #19 for #8 screws.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091227\/CIMG0921.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0921.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here is the backside, showing good edge distance on the #19 holes.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091227\/CIMG0920.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0920.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>After repeating the process for the right bracket, I finished up a few remaining tasks such as drilling the seat ribs to the aft side of F-704, match drilling all ribs to bulkheads, and drilling out the forward tooling holes to 5\/8&#8243; for wiring runs. \u00a0I then\u00a0disassembled the center section and started prepping the individual components.<\/p>\n<p>First up is to debur and dimple the holes in the bottom flanges of F-704. \u00a0Remember that the holes we countersunk in the bottom skin have to be skipped when dimpling so that the floor stiffeners can lay flush against this flange.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091227\/CIMG0922.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0922.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Neither the instructions nor the plans make any mention of these holes in the top flange of the aft side of F-704, but the seat pan that sits above this is removable, so this must just attach the top of the seat ribs to the F-704 flange. \u00a0Since the seat pan needs to sit flush against this flange, I countersunk this for an AN426AD3 rivet.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091228\/CIMG0923.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0923.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Finally, I started deburring all of the components. \u00a0I made it through the F-704 and F-705 bulkheads and six of the eight seat ribs before running out of steam. \u00a0I should be able to finish deburring the rest of the center section components tomorrow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I started today by installing the crotch strap brackets. \u00a0I&#8217;m either going with Hooker or Crow harnesses, but either way, the spacing between the brackets has to be increased to 5\/16&#8243;
