{"id":1088,"date":"2009-12-29T17:18:12","date_gmt":"2009-12-29T17:18:12","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-04T05:13:58","modified_gmt":"2017-12-04T05:13:58","slug":"started-center-section-final-a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2009\/12\/29\/started-center-section-final-a\/","title":{"rendered":"Started Center Section Final Assembly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I started final assembly of the center section this morning. \u00a0First up is to rivet the crotch strap brackets to the appropriate ribs. \u00a0I used solid rivets here instead of the blind rivets called for in the plans. \u00a0These can all be reached with the squeezer when the ribs are out in the open like this.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091229\/CIMG0925.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0925.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>These pairs of ribs can then be riveted and bolted to the aft side of F-704 (bolts go through the top and bottom ends of the forward flanges of these ribs and through the thick spar carry through bars).<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091229\/CIMG0926.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0926.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>Now the rest of the ribs can be riveted on. \u00a0I also final torqued all of the rib to F-704 bolts and lacquer sealed them.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091229\/CIMG0927.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0927.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>F-705 and the baggage ribs can then be riveted on. \u00a0Because of the rear spar carry through, spacers, etc., the lengths of the rivets varies pretty significantly through here, so pay close attention to the rivet callouts.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091229\/CIMG0929.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0929.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>While access is good, I bolted on the control mounts and lacquer sealed them.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091229\/CIMG0930.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0930.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>Since everything is now bolted to the aft end of F-704, there is no reason not to bolt the two halves together. \u00a0I reinserted a couple of close tolerance bolts to ensure perfect alignment, then installed the two AN4 bolts and spacers.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091229\/CIMG0931.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0931.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>Here is a closeup of one of the spacers and the installed bolt. \u00a0I had to use three washers under the nut (the maximum allowed) to cover the grip (this bolt is a little long like this because it also holds part of the gear weldment on nosedraggers).<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091229\/CIMG0932.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0932.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I riveted together the connecting straps for the modified seat ribs and temporarily installed them so the ribs are more rigid during the next few steps.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091229\/CIMG0933.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0933.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I also installed the one leg nutplates in the top of the crotch strap brackets. \u00a0This would have been easier to do before riveting these to everything else.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091229\/CIMG0934.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0934.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>I deburred and dimpled the bottom skin and shot a little self-etching primer on the parts that will be covered by the corner ribs and F-704.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20091229\/CIMG0935.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG0935.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center>Finally, I clecoed the bottom skin to the center section skeleton. \u00a0This is ready to rivet;
