{"id":1071,"date":"2010-01-17T17:14:49","date_gmt":"2010-01-17T17:14:49","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-12-04T05:38:12","modified_gmt":"2017-12-04T05:38:12","slug":"assembled-brake-pedals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/2010\/01\/17\/assembled-brake-pedals\/","title":{"rendered":"Assembled Brake Pedals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I started tonight by fabricating the shims that fit between the aux and lower longerons at F-902. \u00a0An angle will sit on top of these shims that will serve as the structural support for the forward tank attach bracket.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100117\/CIMG1037.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1037.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, when I took the clecos out of the gear web, the holes shifted. \u00a0It looks like I didn&#8217;t get the gear web fully seated in the aux longeron before match drilling it to the bulkhead. \u00a0This side is about 1\/16&#8243; off, the other side is about 1\/32&#8243; off. \u00a0I need to order some things from Van&#8217;s anyway, so I&#8217;ll go ahead and replace the bulkheads.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100117\/CIMG1039.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1039.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I skipped to the next section and began assembling the brake pedals. \u00a0I made the optional lightening cuts since every ounce counts. \u00a0Instead of the diagonal cuts at the bottom of the pedals, I cut a 1\/2&#8243; radius curve to match the radius of the lightening holes in the pedals. \u00a0The additional weight savings is negligible obviously, but I think it just looks better.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100117\/CIMG1040.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1040.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I drilled the UHMW rudder support blocks for the AN3 bolts that will be used to attach them to the skin stiffeners. \u00a0I&#8217;ve heard other builders complain about drilling this plastic, but if you turn your drill press down low and feed fairly aggressively (3-4 seconds to drill all the way through), the plastic comes out in one single shaving and the hole is perfectly clean. \u00a0You don&#8217;t even need to clamp the block (though make sure you hold it down firmly as you back the bit out).<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100117\/CIMG1041.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1041.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I mounted the rudder tubes to the support blocks. \u00a0Make sure you pay attention to the orientation of the blocks. \u00a0The holes are not drilled perpendicular to the sides since the skin supports taper inward toward the firewall.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100118\/CIMG1042.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1042.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I clamped the rudder bars together with a piece of scrap angle and clamped the brake pedals together using a thick steel rule. \u00a0These are not the stock master cylinders that Van&#8217;s supplies (which are made by Matco). \u00a0These are made by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.groveaircraft.com\/\">Grove<\/a>. \u00a0They are higher quality than the Matco units and are adjustable.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/rv7pictures\/Originals\/20100118\/CIMG1043.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/jasonbeaver.com\/rv7\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/CIMG1043.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I started tonight by fabricating the shims that fit between the aux and lower longerons at F-902. \u00a0An angle will sit on top of these shims that will serve as the structural support for the forward tank attach bracket.
